24/05/07 - Youths Outclass Saint Kevin's

St Kevin's Boys    1    4    Skerries Town

Skerries youths travelled back to the AUL Complex last Sunday (20/5/07), the venue of their Ferrari Cup win, this time to take on St Kevin's Boys in a Super Division DDSL league clash. With all the celebrations after the cup win, this fixture could have proved difficult but not one bit. Skerries were out of the blocks like a flash from the start and Kevin's were forced to defend deep in their own half as Skerries powered forward.

The opening score took only 7 minutes to arrive. Beattie jinked his way past 2 defenders and set up Coleman who saw his shot blocked by the Kevin's keeper. Mulvaney made a nuisance of himself as the ball broke free in the box and Capper picked up the pieces to fire home from 8 yards. Skerries were two up 10 minutes later. Duff won two headers on the half way line, the second being directed to Mulvaney who immediately set Beattie free. Beattie ran 30 yards before beating the Kevin's keeper low down to his right from 12 yards for a smashing score.

Skerries were now in total control and it looked like it was only a matter of time before they would extend their lead. On 22 minutes Capper had an effort blocked on the line after Heffernan had created the opening. Within minutes Coleman turned and cracked a shot against the keepers legs after a throw in from O'Brien and from the resulting corner Beattie chipped the keeper but the ball also carried over the cross bar. As the half came to a close, neat footwork by Mulvaney gave him space on the edge of the Kevin's area, a clever through ball set up Heffernan but the Kevin's keeper made a magnificent save to keep the score to 2-0 at the break.

There was no let up from Skerries and within 5 minutes of the restart Hopkins got the goal his play richly deserved. Some close inter-play between Capper and Beattie made the opening for Hopkins who made no mistake from 10 yards. On 65 minutes it was 4-0.  O'Neill found Hopkins free just outside the Kevin's area. His first time pass found Beattie just inside the Kevin's area. Beattie rounded three Kevin's defenders and the keeper to score from 2 yards.

A measure of the supremecy of Skerries was that the first time Skerries keeper Jenkinson made a save was on 80 minutes and that was a shot from distance. St Kevin's to their credit, however, kept plugging away and were rewarded with a score 7 minutes from time.

Skerries continued to pile forward and in the closing 5 minutes could have scored another 4 times. First Hopkins saw the keeper off his line but his chip landed just over on the roof of the net. Then Mulvaney hit the post with only the keeper to beat. O'Neill then fired wide with the goalkeeper stranded and finally Beattie somehow managed to side foot the ball wide from 4 yards with the keeper no where to be seen.

Team: Jenkinson, O'Brien, Bolger, Duff, Martin (Coen). Hopkins, Heffernan (O'Neill), Capper, Mulvaney, Beattie, Coleman (Garrett). Kileen injured.

23/05/07 - Seniors draw with Crumlin

Crumlin 2 2 Skerries Town

A powerful first half performance allow Skeries a two goal advantage in the Senior league encounter on the all weather pitch at Crumlin on Wednesday (9/5/07) Two first efforts from Graham O'Flaherty and Brendan Moore gave Skerries the half time lead. The opening half also saw Crumlin reduced to 10 men.
Skerries however, failed to reproduce the level of performance of the first half in the second and Crumlin cancelled out the Skerries lead with two cracking efforts.

Skerries play their last fixture of the season next Sunday with a home fixture with Bangor Celtic who are chasing a runners up spot at least.

23/05/07 - Premier side still have a lot to play for

15/05/07 - Heartbreak for 17s in Grehan Cup Final

Our under 17 side suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Sacred Heart FC in the DDSL Grehan Cup Final at the AUL last Sunday (13/5/07). Skerries got off to the worse possible start conceding a goal in the opening minute. However, Martin Cripps's side were level 4 minutes later when the pace of Brian Walls took him past a defender to score.

The game then settled down for the remainder of the first half with Skerries possibly shading the exchanges. The Skerries centre back pairing of Colm Lee and the impressive Conor O'Brien were in control at the back and they restricted Sacred Heart to long range efforts that Branagan in the Skerries goal collected with ease. In midfield Hogan and Chris Branagan were working hard while up front Langan kept the Heart defence on their toes.

The second half saw Sacred Heart come more into the game. However it was some what against the run of play that they took the lead on 63 minutes. Skerries for the second time would have to go in search of an equaliser. As Skerries pressed forward a Sacred Heart found more space in midfield and up front. Sacred Heart's third goal came from the penalty spot. Skerries defender Kennifick tussled with a Sacred Heart forward for the ball inside the area, the referee adjudged that the Skerries defender had tugged Sacred Heart forwards shirt and pointed to the spot to the groans of the travelling Skerries support.

Within minutes Skerries were back in the game when Langan fired home to reduce the deficit to the narrowest of margins. Skerries continued to press forward and Langan had the ball in the Sacred Heart net only to be cancelled out by a linesman flag. Skerries pressed right to the end but the clock came too soon and Sacred Heart ran out somewhat lucky winners.
This was a fine display from the under 17 side. Impressive on the day were Lee and O'Brien at the back, Cripps, Hogan and Branagan in midfield while the pace of Langan was always a threat in attack.

Team: Branagan S, Cripps, Kennefick, Lee, O'Brien, Hogan, Langan, Branagan C, Walls, McLoughlin, O'Callaghan.

15/05/07 - Youths win Ferrari Cup

Skerries have captured the top cup prize in the Dublin District Schoolboy League with a convincing 2-0 win over Home Farm at AUL grounds last Sunday (13/5/07). The opening exchanges were physical but the game finally settled down to a very even contest. Neither side was able to create a clear opening with both defences well on top. Martin and Coen were giving nothing away in the full back spots while Garrett and Bolger marshalled the centre area with ease. At the other end Home farm's O'Connor and Comerford were keeping the Skerries forward line at bay. A moment of magic on 40 minutes saw Skerries take the lead. A combination of Capper and Heffernan won the ball in midfield and found Beattie on the left hand side of the Home Farm penalty area. Beattie immediately found Hopkins who set Coleman free in the area. Coleman fired home from 10 yards past the helpless Sweeney in the Home Farm goal.

Within three minutes of the restart Skerries were two up. After a neat passing movement between Beattie, Coen and Heffernan the ball was crossed into the Home Farm area. Coleman and Capper both missed the ball which fell to Mulvaney at the back post. His initial shot was superbly saved by Sweeney but not to be outdone Mulvaney like a flash pounced on the rebound to fire home.

With tackles flying in from both sides the referee found it necessary to show a number of yellow cards and on 64 minutes Home Farm were reduced to 10 men when number 8 Kinsella received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Martin.
Home Farm press forward in the closing stages but were unable to find the score to get them back into the game They were unlucky not to score on 85 minutes when their most impressive player on the day McAllister headed wide from 8 yards following a cross from Collen with only Jenkinson to beat.

This was a fine performance from a superb Skerries side.

Team: Jenkinson, Coen, Martin, Bolger, Garrett, Hopkins, Capper, Heffernan, Mulvaney, Coleman, Beattie, O'Brien, O'Neill, Duff, Kileen

02/05/07 - Cup Week-End Update

Under 9's win NDSL Cup                     photos

Skerries Town        2        1    St Itas

The Aidan Doyle and Simon Toft under 9 side are NDSL Cup winners following a late late winner against St. Itas at Santry Stadium last Saturday (28/4/07). Skerries had the better of the opening exchanges and were unlucky not to score in the opening half. Missed chances and good defending by St. Itas left the sides level at half time.

The second period was much the same. St Itas did created a few openings and only a goal line clearance by a Skerries defender kept the sides level. With 3 minutes remaining on the clock and extra time looming Skerries made the break through. Mark Doyle weaved his way into the St. Itas penalty area and fired home from 6 yards. Straight from the kick off St Itas went looking for an equaliser and within a minute were on level terms when Jake Doggett shot past a static Skerries defence.

Now everyone were getting ready for extra time. But Skerries again pressed forward and a St Itas defender handled  the ball in the area and Skerries were awarded a penalty kick. Sam Toft was coolness personified as he stroked the ball home with the last kick of the game.

The final whistle sounded as the kick off was being taken to give Skerries a deserved victory.

Premier Saturday side in Lummy O'Reilly Cup Final

Skerries Town     3        3        Loughlinstown

Our Premier Saturday side will play Templeogue United in the final of the Lummy O'Reilly Cup after a dramatic penalty shoot out win against Loughlinstown last Saturday.

A Kevin Farrell's strike from the edge of the area 10 minutes from the end of normal time brought the game to extra time after Skerries had twice come from behind.  And it was that Farrell who converted Skerries's fifth penalty to take Skerries into the final after Loughlinstown had missed their third spot kick.

Manager Dave Barnes was naturally delighted with the win. We have worked hard all year and we deserve to be in a cup final he said after the game.

Under 10's have no joy in Callery Shield Final

Skerries Town        0        2        Maynooth

Our under 10's under the guidance of Tommy O'Brien and Brian Simpson were out of luck in the Callery Shield final when they went down 2-0 to Maynooth at Santry Stadium last Sunday (29/4/07).

Skerries never really got going and Maynooth were deserving winner on the day.

Youths drive on to Ferrari Cup Final

Skerries Town    2        0        Cherry Orchard

Skerries youths proved too strong for Cherry Orchard in the semi-final of the Ferrari Cup last Sunday 29/4/07) at Park Lane winning 2-0. The Orchard started the better and their neat passing across the back was nice to watch but never a threat to the Skerries goal. As the half wore on Skerries were creating the better chances with their more direct approach.

On 15 minutes Capper shot straight at the keeper when well placed after been set up by Coen. Within minutes the lively Mulvaney was bundled over in the Orchard area but penalty appeals were waved away by referee Carey. On 32 minutes Mulvaney shot wide after good play by Heffernan. Within a minute Heffernan had a fine drive from 30 yards turned over the bar by the Orchard keeper. The Orchard's only clear chance of the opening half was when their no. 6 broke down the right and fired a shot across the goal and wide. Skerries finished the half with the best chance of the half. Mulvaney slipped the Orchard off-side trap on the half way line. He raced on goal but his shot was well save by the Orchard keeper low down to his left.

Skerries started the second half just as their had finished the first on the attack. A neat one two between Kileen and Mulvaney set Kileen away but just as he was about to shoot an Orchard defender slid in to deflect the ball for a corner. On 62 minutes the constant Skerries pressure by Branagan, Mulvaney and Kileen told on the Cherry Orchard defence. The Orchard defence could only half clear the ball and Hopkins was on hand to slam the ball to the net. Two minutes later Hopkins should have made it 2-0 but the Orchard keeper made a fine save tipping the ball over the cross bar.

Skerries did increase their lead on 77 minutes. A long kick out from Jenkinson beat a static and square Orchard back line and Mulvaney controlled the ball brilliantly and shot past a helpless Orchard keeper from 10 yards.

Skerries had fine performances all over the field. In particular Jenkinson in goal had a fine game, collecting crosses at ease. The defence of O'Brien, Coen, Bolger and Duff were as solid as a rock. While the midfield of Kileen, Hopkins, Garrett and Heffernan never gave the Orchard time to settle and played some nice football as well. Up front Mulvaney was on fire and Capper performed well after his recent injury. Steven Beattie and Con Martin were not considered because of injury.

Manager Liam Heffernan must be very happy with the way this side is progressing.

24/04/07 - Skerries Town reach Grehan Cup Final

Skerries Town 5 Palmerstown 3 (after Extra Time)

Skerries Town Under 17's reached the final of the Grehan Cup after being 2-1 down at half time and 3-1 down minutes into the second half.

Three quick substitutions changed the game for Skerries and with 20 minutes to go a goal mouth scramble saw the ball just cross the line to make it 3-2. Skerries never looked back after this. Chance after chance went begging and with 5 minutes remaining super sub Mick Peters hammered the ball in to the Palmerstown net
Skerries celebrations saw the referee struggle to restart the game but Skerries deserved there chance of extra time.

The first half of ET saw Skerries dominate and man of the match Johnny Kennifeck saw a 30 yard thunderbolt rattle the bar before Shane Langan scored to put Skerries 4-3 up. Skerries continueed to dominate the second half and Langan wrapped it up with a nice solo effort .

WELL DONE TO ALL THE LADS "aint no stopping us now" BAGGY TROUSERS in the final.

21/04/07 - Major Champions

Skerries Town Major Saturday side are Leinster Senior League Division 1B Saturday champions following their 1-0 victory over Trinity S&L last Tuesday (17 April) Skerries travelled to Trinity in this last fixture of a 20 game season to win by the slenderest of margins, a brilliant individual effort by Harry O'Toole.

Skeries were nervous in the opening period and a rock hard uneven pitch did little to settle the nerves. Clear goal scoring chances for either side were as rare as the 33 bus. Skerries were confined to half chances. the first felling to Harry O'Toole on 13 minutes but a firm challenge from a Trinity defender ensured the sides stayed level. Two minutes later Derek Early shot over following good work by McDonagh and O'Toole. On 25 minutes O'Donoghue broke from the back but his effort was turned away by the Trinity keeper at the expense of a corner.

Just 3 minutes before the break Trinity produced the best chance of the opening period. A corner to Skerries was cleared by Trinity and some swift passing set their centre forward free on the half way line with Skerries looking for an offside which never came and it was left to Keith Farrell to save the Skerries blushed by saving well to his right. As the first half entered it's final moments Yuen fired a left footer against the butt of the Trinity left hand upright and wide.

The second half was only 4 minutes old when Harry O'Toole scored the goal that would eventually win the game. Harry picked up the ball 35 yards from the Trinity goal. There seem little danger as the Trinity defence advanced to play an offside but O'Toole took matter into his own hands and beat 3 defenders on the edge of the box before slipping the ball past the advancing keeper. The game for the next 20 minutes for fairly even with neither side able to breakdown the others defence. As the game enter it's final period, Trinity who need points to avoid relegation, pressed forward looking for an equaliser.  However too many of their attacks was based on sending long, high balls into the Skerries backs where Grimes and particularly Beggs were outstanding.

Team: Farrell, Connelly, O'Donoghue, Beggs, Grimes, McDonagh, Costello (Sheridan), O'Toole, Earley (Klingn), Yuen, Coleman (Noone)

21/04/07 - Winning Ways Again

Rivervalley 1 Skerries Town 3

The match kicked off with Rivervalley taking the kick off. Rivervalley lost the ball to Skerries and went on an attack and missed. The first half ended 0-0.

In the second half Skerries went on the attack. They got a corner. Dylan Coleman took it. The ball went over Aaron Kenny’s head and Emmet Mullen scored with a header at the back post. We got a corner, Dylan passed the ball to Jack. Jack had a shot, the ball went into the bottom corner. It was looking like a 2-0 win for Skerries, but not for long. Rivervalley got a goal to make it 2-1. Then Emmet passed the ball to Dylan, he crossed it to Aaron. Aaron stopped the ball and smacked it into the top corner and the match ended 3-1 to Skerries.

17/04/07 - Lummy O'Reilly Cup

A date for you diary. Saturday 28 April Skerries Saturday Premier side have a home tie in the semi-final of the O'Reilly Cup. Skerries will play the winners of this weekends quarter-final tie between Clonee and Loughlinstown FC

17/04/07 - Beggs on LSL Representative side

Martin Beggs came on as a second half substitute for the Leinster Senior League side that played the Scottish Amateurs in the annual Alan Mackey trophy game played at Malahide last Saturday.
The LSL side were 2 down at the break thanks to efforts by Charlie Scarborough and Sean Simpson. Beggs who replaced O'Meara at half time was unable to rescue the LSL from the first half damage. Perhaps our man should have been on from the start.

Well done Martin.

16/04/07 - Majors in line for League title

Our Saturday Major under the guidance of Darren Barlow are just one game away from the Saturday 1B league title. Boyne Rovers who they were due to play in their second last fixture of the season have withdrawn from the league. Skerries have been awarded the 3 points. So their last game that will decide the destination of the league title is away to Trinity S&L on Tuesday 17 at Donaghmede.

Let get out there and give the MAJORS our big support.

16/04/07 - Premier side's game cancelled
Dave Barnes's side had no action the weekend as the opponents Parkvale were unable to field a side. Skerries have been awarded a 3-0 win and the points.

Next game up is a top of the table clash away to St Pats Cy.

15/04/07 - Skerries Take the Bus

Dublin Bus 1 3 Skeries Town

Skerries recorded their third league win on the trot with a well deserved 1-3 victory over Dublin Bus last Wednesday at Colecut. The Bus started the brighter and forced Skerries to defend for long periods in the opening half an hour. The Skerries defence however as ever were able to handle anything the Bus could throw at them and as the half drew to a close Skerries began to get a foothold and on 40 minutes we took the lead. A ball into the Dublin Bus area evaded everyone except Martin Beggs at the back post who scored with ease from 6 yards.
The second half was only 15 minutes old when Beggs scored his and Skerrie's second. Good work by Davey and Donnelly found Gallagher out wide who immediately set up Beggs to score from an acute angle.

Bus pulled a goal back on 80 minutes but Steven Beattie secured the 3 points with a fine solo effort in the 90 minute. The win lifts Skerries into the top half of the table and almost certainly a spot in the Senior Division again next season.

14/04/07 - Beggs picks Clover

Skerries Town 2 1 Clover United

A dramatic 94 minute strike give Skerries all 3 points in this league tie at Park Lane. Skerries third from bottom going into this game with second from bottom Clover have now opened up a 7 point gap over there rivals.
The first half Skerries performance was possible the poorest Skerries have played all season. With only 10 minutes on the clock the normally very secure Skerries defence were no where to be seen as Clover took a deserved lead. The Clover centre forward beating Eamonn Byrne at his near post.

Skerries were hand a lifeline when with 20 minutes gone we were awarded a penalty. A long ball into the Clover box was cleared by a Clover defender but a linesman's (or assistant referee now) flag alerted the referee to a push on a Skerries player. Martin Beggs normally lethal from the spot pulled his effort wide of the left hand post.
Barry Davey was introduced at the start of the second period. The change certainly worked as Skerries pilled forward in search of an equaliser. On 70 minutes Skeries got the goal their play deserved. Brendan Moore was on hand to head a Bolger long throw into the roof of the Clover net.

There was a great tempo to the game now as Skerries and Clover went in search of the score that would surely bring the 3 points. Skerries continued to make the better chances and all 3 point seem secure when Cian Connolly rattled the Clover net with a rasping shot only to see his effort ruled out for offside.

Then with both sets of supporters settling for a share of the points Skerries were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Clover box. Beggs took centre stage and drilled the ball over the wall and into the Clover net.

Team: Byrne, Lee (Davey), Bolger, Doherty, Gahan, Kelly (Hurley), Gallagher, Donnelly (Connelly), Beattie, Moore, Beggs.

14/04/07 - Under 8's lose out to Clontarf

Clontarf  4 Skerries Town 3

The first half Skerries started well with Dylan Sweeney putting Skerries ahead with a goal in the first 10 minutes. Clontarf then got on top with some excellent play and scored three without reply to make it 3-1 at half time.
Early in the second half Skerries pulled one back to make it 3-2 with a goal from Dylan Coleman. Skerries pushed forward looking for the equaliser with Sean Graham, Dylan Coleman, Emmet Mullen and Aaron Kenny all going close. As Skerries pressed forward, Clontarf broke from defence to score again to make it 4-2.
Skerries responded again with a long ball down the wing by Jack Ferguson then a control and pass by Dylan Coleman put Aaron Kenny through to finish a great move to make it

4-3 .
Dylan Coleman and Aaron Kenny both went close in the last couple of minutes but unfortunately they just ran out of time and the points stayed in Clontarf.

10/04/07 - Majors closing in on League title

Skerries Town    3    0    Swords Celtic

Another convincing win by our Major Saturday side puts them in pole position to lift the Saturday Division 1B title. Skerries were always on top but had to wait until a minute before the break to open the scoring. A Johnny Beggs free kick floated into the Swords penalty area was neatly headed over the advancing goalkeeper to put Skerries 1 up at the break.

Skerries continued to press forward in the second half and it was only a matter of time before a second score came. On 65 minutes an Angay Yuen shot was to hot for the Swords keeper to handle and as the ball fell loose Harry O'Toole made no mistake from 6 yards.

Some 10 minutes later Yuen scored the goal his play deserved when he picked up the ball on the end-line, rounded a couple of defenders and slipped the ball past the keeper from a tight angle.

Skerries have two games left, away to both Boyne Rovers and Trinity S&L. Two win will guarantee Skerries the title.

10/04/07 - Premier's in O'Reilly Semi-Final

Skerries Town    3    1    Drumcondra

Skerries Premier Saturday advanced to the semi-final of the O'Reilly Cup after a magnificent second half performance over Drumcondra at sunny Town Park last Saturday. The first half is probably best forgotten with neither side creating a clear scoring chance between them. Skerries did try to play constructive football but Drumcondra were too happy to play the ball long every time they got possession.

For the second week running what ever was said a half time really fired up Skerries and after the break were a changed side. Within 3 minutes of the restart Skerries were in front. A Seamus Farrell free kick into the box evaded everyone except David Potter at the back post who squeezed the ball home between post and keeper.

Skerries were now totally in control and Drumcondra had no answer to the passing skills of Potter and Tolan in midfield while the wing play of Seamus Farrell and Murray was  a consent threat. It was no surprised when the second gaol arrived. With 55 minutes on the clock Seamus Farrell was again involved, this time setting up Armstrong who beat the keeper to the ball and finished with ease.

Skerries continued to torment the Drumcondra defence and Armstrong had the ball in the Drums net again but was ruled out for off side. What happen then was bizarre. Having been given the off side decision the Drums keeper somehow found something to complain about and received a yellow card. As the free kick was being take he continued his words with the referee whereby he received a second yellow and was sent off.

As often happens incidents like that can stir a team into action and so it was with Drumcondra. The tough tackling from the big Drums side saw the referee issue a number of yellow cards as they went in search of a score to get them back into the game. They were given a lifeline when they were rewarded a penalty which they converted on 85 minutes. Skerries however, sealed victory when Daniel Lamont scored in the 90 minute to see Skerries into the last four draw.

Skerries are joined by Templeogue United, Castleknock and the winners of Clonee and Loughlinstown FC in the semis

04/04/07 - Skerries exit Metro on penalties

Greystones    2    2    Skerries Town

Davey, Beggs

On Sunday last Skerries Town travelled to County Wicklow to take on Greystones in the quarter final of the Metropolitan Cup and after 120 minutes of football, the sides were tied at 2 all with Greystones finally winning out in a dramatic penalty shootout by a score line of  7-8.

Greystones elected to play with the advantage of the slope in the opening half. While there was a generous covering of grass, the pitch underfoot was bumpy. This made passing difficult for both sides and resulted in both sides resorted to playing long balls to their respective forward line which caused few problems for either defence. Clear scoring chances were therefore few and far between. The best chance for Skerries came when a long throw from Bolger was flicked on by Beggs but O'Flaherty shot wide from 18 yards. Then from a corner on the right Hurley found Doherty at the back post who fired a shot at goal it was charged down by the arm of a Stones defender but appeals for a penalty were turned away by referee Fitzsimons. Greystones for their part created the best chance of the opening half when O'Mahony slipped the Skerries offside trap but big Eamon Byrne in the Skerries goal saved well with his legs.

The second half opened a number of  hefty challenges and referee Fitzsimons was forced to show 2 yellow cards in the opening 3 minutes of the resumption. Skerries came close to making the break through on 55 minutes when another long throw by Bolger was flicked into the Greystones six yard box by Doherty and as Greystones struggled to clear the ball again fell again to Doherty who smacked the ball off the cross bar from 6 yards...Giggs like.

With 82 minutes on the clock Greystones scored what seemed like a winner. Good play at the back and in midfield set up the red headed Brien who fired past Byrne from 8 yards. Then with the game in injury time substitute Barry Davey fired Skerries level and into extra time.

The first period of extra again saw Greystones take a deserved lead when their O'Mahony beat a number of Skerries defenders to slot the ball past Byrne with ease. But again Skerries dug deep and after a period of pressure and following a corner on the right Beggs equalised when he drove home through a crowded area from 18 yards.

And so the tie was finally settle by the penalty shootout.  After the opening 5 penalties both sides were still level on 4 each Beggs, Gahan, Connolly and Davey being successful while Hurley's was saved. It was then into sudden death Moore, Gallagher and Langan were successful before Doherty had the misfortune to see this strike saved by the Greystones keeper. And so it was Skerries exit the Metro 7-8 on penalties.

Team:    Byrne, Lee (Gahan), Langan, Doherty, Bolger, Moore, Donnelly (Davey), Gallagher, Hurley, Beggs, O'Flaherty (Connolly) Not Used: Kelly

04/04/07 - Saturday Majors Win over Trinity

Skerries Town    2    0    Trinity S&L

Skerries Saturday Major side had a convincing 2-0 win over Trinity S&L to put the pressure on Malahide United in the hunt for league honours. Skerries were always in control in the opening period but were unable to find the score to add to their good play. Then on the stroke of half time Noone, who was making his first start of the season following a long injury lay off, was chopped down inside the Trinity area following a surging run. Shane O'Donoghue converted the spot kick with ease.

The second half was very much a carbon copy of the first with Skerries well on top. Harry O'Toole sealed the points for Skerries when on the hour mark he cracked a beauty from 35 yards to the roof of the Trinity net.   Trinity were offered a glimmer of hope when they were awarded a penalty when the offence was clearly yards outside the area. Beggs was over forceful in his protests and was red carded. Justice was done when Skerries keeper Farrell saved the spot kick. This was Farrell's 6th spot kick save of the season. Is this a record?

Manager Barlow was clearly delighted with this win. We have 4 games remaining. We are right in the mix which is great at this time of the season, he told webmaster after the game.

04/04/07 - Youths are picked by Orchard

Cherry Orchard    3    1    Skerries Town

Skerries Youths were beaten 3-1 at The Lawns on Sunday by Cherry Orchard. This was a good performance as 5 regulars were missing due to injury and other commitments.

The sides were level 1-1 at the break but Skerries can consider themselves unlucky not to have a lead as Mulvaney, Heffernan and Capper all had chances to score. The Skerries score coming from the talented Andy Mulvaney.

Heffernan and Kileen were outstanding in midfield in the opening half but tiredness and an injury to Kileen restricted his effect in the second.

Although the Skerries defence of O'Brien, Duff, Bolger and Coen were immense in the face of the second half Orchard on onslaught they were unable to do anything to prevent the point staying in Ballyfermot.

02/04/07 - St Ita's visit Kids Academy

A St Ita's under 7 selection played a friendly against the Skerries Town Kids Academy recently. In a very entertaining game Skerries Town KA won by 5-3.

Skerries stormed into a 2 goal lead within the opening 5 minutes. St Ita's then settled and reduced the defecate to a goal as the half drew to a close. But immediately Skerries KA restored their 2 goal advantage to lead 3-1 at the break. The second half, like the first, was played at a frantic pace with the sides sharing 4 more goals. Manager of the Skerries side Gavin Friel looked quite pleased after the game. Our movement and passing, for our first game, was very good. I see real potential in this group of players. Skerries Town KA staff thank St Ita's for attending and wish them all the best for the rest of their season.

01/04/07 - Sat Premier Keep Top Spot

Skerries Premier Saturday side remain on top of the league after a 3-2 win over Lucan United on Saturday.
After five weeks without a game Skerries headed to Lucan to recommence their league campaign. The first half was very scrappy with Skerries definitely showing signs of the long layoff.
Lucan went ahead midway through the first half after a neat build up had the Skerries defence at sixes and sevens. This was the only thing of note in a lack lustre first half.
After a typical Barnes half-time team talk, Skerries tried to up their game but were hit with a sucker punch ten minutes into the second half when Lucan scored again. This time Skerries failed to clear as the ball was lofted into the box and the Lucan striker looped the ball over O’Brien in the Skerries goal.
After this goal Skerries made a change with Noonan coming on for Cripps and Barnes reshuffling the back four, pushed Wilde up on the left. Skerries continued to press forward and were rewarded when Wilde was pushed in the box and Skerries were awarded the penalty which Kevin Farrell converted, game on.

The pendulum was now swinging in Skerries favour and when they were awarded a free-kick out on the right wing, Seamus Farrell's inswinging cross was headed home at the back post by David Potter.

It was all Skerries now and the inevitable winner came after great work in midfield by Potter and Tolan and a sweet looping shot from Wilde to the top corner. Cue the celebrations.

This victory combined with their nearest rivals St Patrick's CY losing 2-1 to Castleknock Celtic and Clonee losing out to Dundrum makes it all to play for as the season draws to a close. With no mid week fixture Skerries can sit back and watch the other teams battle for points.

Skerries have 8 games remaining with critical fixtures against Clonee, home and away and St Patrick's CY at home.

01/04/07 - Good win for Major side over Trinity

Our Major Saturday side's 2-0 win over Trinity Sports & Leisure on Saturday sets up a really exciting finally to the league campaigned for Skerries with 4 games remaining.

This win keeps Skerries the second place just 3 points behind leaders Malahide United who could only draw 0-0 with Loughlinstown Celtic and crucially Skerries have a game in hand. UCD are 4 points further back in third place after losing 2-1 to Orwell.  Orwell back in 5th place will still consider they have a chance of promotion as they have a number of games in hand over all their rivals.

Skerries are next in action next Tuesday with a home fixture against Boyne Rovers.
