22/02/10 - Aviva Soccer Sister Easter camps - Girls 7-11

This year like last year will see the return of the Aviva Soccer Sister Easter Camps for girls aged 7-11.

It is a main objective of the FAI Technical Dept and FCC Sports Division that we give girls the opportunity to play football and grow the numbers that are currently doing so. This year we are working closely with primary schools as well as clubs/leagues to ensure sustainability.  After school girls clubs are being set up in selected schools which will hopefully lead to girls attending the SS Easter camps. Following that sessions will be organized for girls in local clubs while at the same time parent/volunteers will hopefully be identified.

If you can help promote any of the above/identify possible coaches for girls teams please get in touch.

The two Soccer Sister camps that will take place in the North County area are –

Donabate Community Centre

29th March – 1st April

10am-1pm

Cost €60

Indoors – Limited to 30 places

Skerries Community Centre

29th March – 1st April

1pm-4pm

Cost €60

Indoors – limited to 30 places

(SS Easter Camps are also taking place in Swords, Portmarnock and Blanchardstown)

A registration day will be announced in the next couple of weeks. However to ensure place is kept - parent/guardian should contact me via email or phone to register their interest for their daughter.

Any queries please feel free in getting in touch.

15/02/10 - STFC Futsal Tournament

Over the 4 Sundays in January, our three U10 teams took part in our own Indoor Futsal event, at Skerries Community Centre.

As this was the first time this has been held, it was very well attended by our 3 teams with a view to running more like it in the future.

As always this would not have been possible with out the great support of all the managers and parents giving up their Sunday afternoons to ensure the children got a game of football, before fixtures returned in early February.

A special thanks to Paul McGrath and Mick Bolger, for getting it off the ground.

15/02/10 - FAI Futsal Tournament in Gormanstown

The FAI ran a Futsal Module in Gormanstown for the month of January.

"The module was based on groupings as close to the divisions played each week in the NDSL leagues.

Fhere was an option to move up or down groupings depending on team ability.

The timings of fixtures were in 2 hour blocks. Fixtures were

10am - 12pm slot,

12.15pm - 2.15pm slot,

2.30pm - 4.30pm slot.

They were rotated on a weekly basis to ensure each team played at a different time slot each week. Each team played 2 x 20mins matches.

Games were either back to back or there could be a 20min wait in between matches.

This event was very well supported and three teams from Skerries Town FC participated, the U9PP, U9D & U8G's,

The indoor event was very well organised and the children had a great time.

Thanks again to the ALL the Managers, Helpers and Parents that gave up their Saturdays to make this possible.

Paul Keogh FAI: "Thanks to all for ensuring the Futsal module ran so well. Hopefully the players enjoyed themselves and that the benefits of Futsal  were seen by all. Best of luck with the coaching for the rest of the season."

08/02/10 - Skerries Town Vs Home Farm SFAI Cup

After their great win against QuayCeltic in the last round of the SFAI Cup, Skerries Town under 11Prem team take on Home Farm on Sunday in the fifth round.

The game will be played in Mourne View on Sunday next at 2pm

Good Luck to Alan, John and the lads. Why not head up to the View on Sunday afternoon and give them your support?

25/01/10 - STFC Junior Academy

We are very happy to inform you that the Club has set up a new coaching academy for the players of the u8, u9 and u10 teams under the direction of David Sheridan, Jez Grimes and Paddy Duff.

David, Jez and Paddy are all senior players and experienced coaches. They will operate the "Junior Academy" from now until the end of March (and possibly further).

David, Jez and Paddy will be giving the teams coaching on Tuesday evenings during their current training slots on the Astro. There is no extra cost to families and we hope as always the children will benefit as much as possible from this.

David also coaches for the NDSL Academy (Oscar Traynor Centre) every Thursday. He has met all the managers and will be working alongside them every week.

For each age group it means that every 3rd Tuesday the coaches will train with your team.

This arrangement started last Tuesday night with the U10 teams training together.

This Tuesday (26th January) they will train with our U9 teams.

The following Tuesday (2nd February) they will train with our U8 teams (together)

The managers will be in contact with you if there are any changes.

However if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact myself, your managers.

23/12/09 - Chairman's Christmas Address

On behalf of the committee I would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year.  Many thanks to everyone who worked so hard for the club during the past year.   Let's hope that 2010 brings better weather to allow us all to enjoy some football.

Brendan

22/12/09 - John Mulhere RIP 19 December 2009

It was with deep regret and sorrow that we learned of the death of John Mulhere on 19 December. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Mulhere family. John was a stalwart supporter of football in the town. He became involved in Skerries soccer in 1962 when he joined Skerries United as a coach and trainer. He drew upon his army background and his knowledge of various sports to bring a new dimension in physical training to the club. He became club secretary in 1964 and represented the club at AUL meetings in Dublin. John was very proud of "his team" - the team that won the first league championship in the history of Skerries United in the 1967/68 season. John was one of the instigators in the move to amalgamate Skerries United and Home Celtic into the present club Skerries Town FC. In 1997 John became the Honorary President of Skerries Town FC. He officially retired in 2001. John's contribution to football in the town over a period of some 40 years was indeed tremendous and never to be forgotten.  May he rest in peace.

12/12/09 - Skerries Under-11s making a splash in SFAI Cup

Fingal Independent - Wednesday December 09 2009

AFTER a shaky start to the season, Skerries Town Under 11's – under former senior manager Alan Sweeney – are hitting a rich vein of form.

Their latest outing at Clancy Park in Dundalk last Saturday morning saw them overcome a tricky surface to record two first-half goals and put one foot in the fifth round of the Menton Seery Under-11 Cup.

Leading scorer Dara Lynch began the scoring after six minutes when, having taking a pass off Emmet Mullen, he slotted past the Quay keeper.

And the visitors then doubled their lead before the break when a terrific effort from just inside the touchline saw Lynch beat the keeper with a bullet shot into the top left-hand corner.

Quay Celtic, however, had the chance to pull a goal back after the break when they were awarded a penalty.

But Dylan Sweeney (Alan's son), having stopped two from five in Skerries 5-3 penalty shoot-out win over Kentstown Rovers in the previous round, performed more heroics when leaping high to his left to keep the ball out of the corner.

And Skerries then closed the game out with 10 minutes to go when Dylan Coleman, having beat two defenders, finished high into the back of the net.

Roll on round five for this talented bunch of lads!

26/11/09 - Annette Sheridan RIP

The committee and members of the club extend their sincerest sympathies to the family of Annette Sheridan on their recent sad bereavement.

08/11/09 - Tape and string on Goalposts unsightly - FCC

Correspondance sent to all clubs in Fingal:

At a recent council meeting the issue of tape and string on posts was raised and it was pointed out that many clubs continue to use tape or string to attach nets to posts resulting in damage to the posts and unsightly litter in the parks.

The Council must now insist that all clubs use the netfix system and continued use of tape or string will no longer be tolerated.

22/10/09 - Message from FAI re: Mid-Term Soccer Camps

Hi all,

It has been brought to our attention that a male claiming to be an official from the FAI has offered places to children on a training course over the October Bank Holiday weekend or midterm break.

We would like to advise all clubs in the North Dublin Schoolboys/girls League that these courses do not exist as the FAI has no camps or sessions over the bank holiday or midterm break.

If any members of your club have been offered places in these sessions please contact our Child Welfare Officer Julie Murphy, 087 410 27 97

Regards,
Julie Murphy

22/10/09 - Skerries Town make the FAI Cup Semi Final

Skerries Town Under 14's have been invited by Sporting Fingal to attend the FAI Cup Semi-Final on Sunday and act as ballboys for the game. The game is being televised, so if your not going, keep an eye out for the lads on TV.

25/09/09 - STFC Social / Events Group

Skerries Town FC are trying to get a Social / Events Group together within the Club.

The idea is if we could get one / two parents from each team to get together and form a Social/Event Group.
That could meet possibly once a month and help to organise or run an event(s) for the Club.

The Club has a calander of events that is worked out over the season - such as Christmas Party, Easter Camps,
Table Quiz's, Family Days out etc, and if involved you could get ideas together plan/organise/run a few new
social and fundraising events.

And any parent that gets involved could be there for that season, inviting another group to participate next season so everyone gets a chance to get involved and be a part of the Club, if interested.

We really would appreciate it if you would consider this, and contact me before next Friday (2nd October).

Regards,
Karen STFC.

16/09/09 - Kid Goats to meet the Gypsies

Skerries Town u12s will have a chance to light up Dalymount Park this Friday (18 Sept) when they pay a visit to the home of League of Ireland Premier Division leaders Bohemians. It should be a great night for the kids as they will get to meet some of the senior players and will feature  in a half time exhibition game. We hope Martin Cripps and the team have a great night out.

Many thanks to Bohemians for their kind invitation, to everyone who helped with the arrangements and to the parents for their support.

29/08/09 - Message from the chairman:

At the start of the new season I would like to take the opportunity to wish all managers, assistant managers, coaches, team helpers and indeed players every success in their forthcoming games. I would like to thank the committee for all their great work in getting things underway. A lot of work was done during the summer in preparation for the new season. My thanks also to all our volunteers for giving so feely of their time and talents to ensure the club is kept afloat.

I would remind players and parents that the club is operating a strict player registration policy. ALL players must be properly registered before they can play a competitive game.

Good luck to all!

29/08/09 - Swine Flu Pandemic - Advice to Players & Parents

Against the current background of the swine flu pandemic and in the interests of health and hygiene all players should have their own personal water bottle which they should not share with others. Managers are asked to remind players to bring their own water bottles and not to share water bottles. If one player gets swine flu then the entire team and club is at risk. Parents are asked to ensure their children have their own water bottles.

It
is also advisable that a player's name be written on his/her water bottle.

28/08/09 - Senior Teams kick off this week-end

The club's senior teams are both at home this week-end in their first games of the new season. On Saturday the second team play St. James's Gate while on Sunday the first team play Newtown Rangers. Both games are at 2.30 PM in Park Lane.

All support welcome.

23/06/09 - Friday Late Night Soccer Returns to Skerries

                  Poster                                   Photo from Last Year

Fingal County Council’s/FAI’s Late Night Soccer is back in Skerries and Balbriggan for 2009. Following on from the success of last year’s programmes where we had 200 and 110 participants respectively we are launching it again on the 26th June 2009 in Skerries Community Centre and 3rd July 2009 in Glebe North FC. LNS runs every Friday night for six weeks from 7:40pm – 10:00pm and are run on a league basis for those aged 16-21.

Late Night Soccer began in 2007 in Corduff Sports Centre where we had 10 teams competing. In 2008 we had three venues, Corduff, Skerries and Balbriggan and this year we are adding a fourth venue, Rivervalley in Swords which is starting on the 2nd July 2009 in Rivervalley All Weather Pitch. This year we are also having our first Fingal Finals Night where the winners of each programme will come together and playoff to see what venue can gain the title of ‘Fingal LNS Champions 2009’.

Late Night Soccer is a programme that provides teenagers and young adults with a safe environment to play football and express themselves in a positive way. This year with support from the FAI’s Intercultural Programme a huge effort has been made to encourage participation of youth from minority ethnic, cultural and national backgrounds. And we are sure that this rich blend of diversity will add to the success of the 2009 programme, both in terms of the football on the pitch and opportunity for social interaction/integration among young people.

Paul Keogh FAI/FCC Development officer had this to add “The joint partnership between Fingal County Council’s sports division and the FAI has meant this program has grown from year to year. The benefits of such a program are obvious to all and will hopefully give the youth of Fingal something to look forward to on a Friday night”

We will be holding Kids Academy as normal on the Saturday morning so if all players could arrive at 10am wearing white shorts, green football socks, shin gaurds, boots and top. 29/01/08 - Skerries Town 100 Club

Skerries Town FC is trying to raise funds through a limited draw. The idea is that if we can get 100 people to commit to giving €20 per month (only €5 per week) we would generate €2000 each month. Half of the sum collected goes into a draw and a person stands the chance of winning €1,000 each month. We have 31 names to date and we need to put a push on to reach our target. If each manager could get just 4 people to sign up we would reach our target. There's an option of paying by standing order or in one sum by cheque. Your co-operation in and support for this initiative would be very much appreciated.

26/11/08 - Schoolboy Academy Update

The Schoolboy Academy is now up and running every Tuesday for under 8s and 9s and every alternate Thursday for under 10s and 11s from 6pm to 7pm
We have had tremendous support from managers and players and hope it continues as the academy is based around a structured program of simple techniques which are practiced and then players are set tests to achieve certificates and monitor there progress each year.
As director of the academy coaching I have been handed the task of providing quality coaching and raising the standards within the club. Our goal is to keep players in the club by giving them the opportunity to train regularly and improve their techniques and knowledge of the game.
At the academy our approach has been simple. We have excellent training facilities on the all weather pitch which means we are never called off. We have enough coaches so that players have good supervision and guidance. Our goal is that all the coaches will be provided access to FAI coaching courses and can use information provided at the academy. It is essential for the club to take us to the next level, that we support the academy and coaches and all schoolboy teams can participate in years to come.

Thanks for your support so far

02/10/08 - Tribute dinner for Dave Langan

Dear Skerries Town FC Committee and Supporters

You may be aware of a campaign from earlier in the year for former Republic of Ireland Footballer Dave Langan organised by Irish football fans through the football fanzine You Boys in Green calling on the FAI to pay tribute to Dave for his services to Ireland.

The campaign had widespread support from the Irish football community and beyond and we would like to thank everybody for the support it received, I know Dave Langan is very grateful for that support as well, as a result of the campaign you may have seen the launch of a tribute dinner to celebrate Dave Langans career or in media coverage since then.

This tribute dinner will take place on Saturday 11th October in the Burlington Hotel Dublin and is open to all who wish to attend, the dress code is smart but it is not a formal black tie function, attached are the details should any of your members wish to attend the dinner to honour Dave for all his commitment and service to Irish football.

Once again thank you for your support and hope to see you on 11th October.

26/09/08 - Noel O'Reilly RIP

The committee and members of Skerries Town FC extend their deepest sympathy to the family of Noel O'Reilly on his sudden and untimely death. Noel had a long career in football and most recently was Senior Coach Educator and manager of the Irish Universities' men's team. Noel was one of the most respected figures in the game and visited Skerries on several occasions.

Noel's brother Kieran has a close association with Skerries where his sons Darragh and Niall played in their formative years. In more recent times Darragh has coached at various levels for the club. May Noel rest in peace.

19/09/08 - Under 13A off to a winning start

Trinty/Donaghmede 0 Skerries Town FC 2

After a poor season last year Skerries got off to exactly the start they were looking for. In an evenly fought first half there was little between the teams. Both defences were strong with the goalkeepers having little to do.

It was a different second half with Skerries driving forward and they didn’t have to wait long before the first goal was scored. Kian Coleman brought the ball out of defence knocked it up the wing to Adam Johnson who nudged it to Masudi Peniketo on the edge of the box. A neat one two with Nathan Andrews saw Masudi through and  he fired the ball under the out coming keeper to score. 5 minutes later it was 2–0, Shane Dennis cleaning up a Trinty attack back to Daire Grimes in goals. He launched the ball into midfield where it was flicked on by Ben Hunter to Masudi who used his strength to break through the defence and score.

As the game drew to a close Skerries had a strong case for a penalty following a great run from Ben Hunter but it wasn’t given. The final whistle blew on what was a great team display from Skerries.

Skerries would like to thank Lynch Interact who are sponsoring the team this year.

24/08/08 - Senior Match Report

Skerries Town  0 0  Arklow Town

Skerries Town opened their league campaign with a home draw against Arklow Town at Park Lane last Sunday.

Arklow who demolished Moyle Park 6-0 on the opening weekend of the season found Skerries a much tougher act.

The opening half was high on effort but with few real goal scoring chances. Arklow did create an opening on 23 minutes but Nicky Maypother in the Skerries goal saved well. On 33 minutes a Joey Doherty effort had the Arklow keeper struggling and a combination of keeper and crossbar saw the ball run to safety. Skerries finished the half on top. The final action of the half saw Aidan Bolger test the Arklow keeper from 30 yards.

The second half saw both sides created more opportunities but in general both defenses continued on top. Paul Kane and Niall Bolger were particularly impressive at the heart of the Skerries defence.

Mark Heffernan ran at the Arklow defence on 56 minutes but shot straight at the keeper. Barry Davey set up Joey Doherty who again shot weak and straight at the keeper. Arklow had the first clear goal scoring opening on 65 minutes. Arklow forward Doyle collected the ball 30 yards out and as Maypother advances Doyle lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper only to see his effort go just outside the far post.

Skerries forward Shane Coleman, found himself in a similar position as Doyle 10 minutes later and he too as the Arklow keeper advanced lobbed the ball over the keeper but also wide of the angle of crossbar and post.

Arklow pressed forward in the final minutes but were unable to find the goal to take all 3 points.

A draw seemed a fair result. Skerries coach Kane Lynch was more than happy with the teams performance. "I'm very happy with the way we played today", Lynch said, "our shape was good, we tried to pass the ball and the commitment was first class".

Team: Nicky Maypother, Aidan Bolger Barry O'Rourke, Paul Kane, Niall Bolger, Con Martin (Barry Daly), Barry Davey, Alan Capper, Joey Doherty (Anjay Yuen) Mark Heffernan, Brendan Moore (Shane Coleman)Not Used: Gerry Grimes

15/07/08 - Skerries got their pre-season off to a winning start

Skerries Town    6    2    Caernarfon Wanderers

Skerries got their pre-season off to a winning start when they recorded a fine 6-2 win over Caernarfon & District League, Wales side Caernarfon Wanderers at Park Lane last Saturday.

Skerries, playing a lovely brand of quick passing football powered into a 3 goal lead within the opening half an hour. Their accurate passing and pace around the pitch gave the visitors all sorts of problems. However, Caernarfon settled and pulled a goal back before halftime. Skerries lost their way a bit when 3 changes were made after 25 minutes but by the final period of the half Skerries had regained their dominance and could have been further in front at half time.

Skerries continues to make changes at the start of the second half. This time the changes made little difference as Skerries scored 3 times in the second half to run out comfortable winners.

08/07/08 - Summer soccer in Skerries brings out the kids!

photos

The Mill field in Skerries was a hive of activity on Thursday night last the 3rd of July.

The occasion was the finals night of the Skerries Town Football club 7 a side summer tournament for Under 11 and 12 year olds. The finals were the culmination of four weeks of hard work by both participants and organisers.

Around 100 boys and girls aged 10 and 11 from the local area were split up into 12 teams, each named after countries participating in Euro 2008. The tournament kicked off on Tuesday June 10th with Croatia vs. Italy among six games played that night. The teams were split into two groups with the top two from each group going into the cup semis, the third and fourth place teams into the shield and the bottom two teams into the plate.

When all was said and done and after a total of 42 games the final saw Sweden take on Russia with the Swedes captained by Steven Coleman coming out ontop. Coleman also picked up the male player of the tournament award with Timi Touinawaile, captain of Spain in second place.

The shield final saw Germany take on France with the French winning out. What made this match even more interesting was that it saw the winner and runner up of the girl of the tournament up against each other. The best girl award eventually went to Michela Carty with Juliette Gormley runner up. The plate final saw Spain take on Holland with Spain coming out on top.

Overall the tournament was seen as a success and plans are being made to expand the competition next year. It is hoped that soccer in Skerries will benefit from this tournament and any interested players are welcome to continue showing off their skills when the new season starts in August.

Anyone interested can contact the club through the club website or phone Colm at 0863971294.

03/05/08 - Skerries Under 10's Celebrate Shield win in style

extract from Fingal Independant

The Skerries under 10 team scored a great victory in the Dublin Bus Shield Final at this season's NDSL finals day.

Managed by Aidan Doyle and Simon Toft, they had a very convincing win , beating Kilbarrack 5-1.

This same team won the double last season, the league and the NDSL trophy, bringing pride to the club last season as well.

There were mighty celebrations around the town after the latest success by a schoolboys team from the Skerries area.

Congratulations to all concerned and good luck for the new season as they step up to the challenge of 11 a-side Sunday football.

22/05/08 - Hunt on for new senior manager

The club is currently seeking a replacement for its senior manager, Alan Sweeney, who has stepped down from the job. The Management Committee has received a number of expressions of interest in the job and the process of selecting a replacement is underway. The Management Committee expects to be in a position to announce the appointment of a successor at next week's AGM.

20/05/08 - Alan Sweeney steps down as senior manager

Alan Sweeney, arguably the club's most successful senior manager of all time, is taking a break from the stresses and  strains of managing the club's top team. Alan holds the honour of having guided Skerries Town to the pinnacle of amateur football when, in the season 2005/06, he secured promotion to the senior division of the Leinster Senior League. Unfortunately, the team was relegated this year and now moves back to senior one football. For many though, the abiding memory of Alan's period at the helm will be the famous FAI cup run in 2003. Having beaten Monaghan Utd in the second round Skerries fell to the mighty Bohemians in Dalymount Park on a balmy August night. The management committee thank Alan most sincerely for his sterling work with the club and wish him well for the future.

04/05/08 - 8A1 end of season reflection - Stephen Guildea

It would be easy to for the Skerries under 8A1 players and management to claim all the credit for their incredible first season. However, it must be noted that they would not be the team they have become with out the fantastic support of Noeleen and Mick Bolger.
Skerries Town's Saturday morning Kids Academy is run by Noeleen and Mick and each year they seem to be able to produce quality players. There are many Skerries players who would now be sitting at home playing X-Box, and not even interested in football, without their tireless effects each Saturday morning.

There are many examples that I could share, but the one that typifies their commitment happened way back in 2003.
On a cold Saturday morning in September 2003, a young Benjamin Guildea reluctantly took to the field for his first day at the Academy. Two minutes later, Benjamin was making his way back to the side line in tears and refusing to play. He was intercepted by Noeleen, who, after a little consoling, brought Benjamin back to Mick. With one hand on Benjamin shoulder, and a football in the other, Mick set this young boy on the road to becoming a football nut!!

Benjamin is now a key defender for the Skerries 8A1s.

Like all great teams, Skerries had to have a great back room team. The job of the management team was made very easy with the tremendous support of ALL our parents. Hail, rain and some times shine, all our parents turned out to help with all the usual tasks, home and away. Our band of supporters were very often the 8th player on the pitch, bringing us over the line for many vital wins.

The highs and lows of the season took its toll on the management team of Martin Kavanagh, Martin Daly and Stephen Guildea. All three have less hair and finger nails after the season. Some might say they have knocked a year or two off their lives. However, they will all be back for more next season !!!. A little wiser after this season.
There are also 10 players that HELPED. The season started with 10 individual players who over the season, and with a little help from management, became one of the top teams in the under 8 division.

Unfortunately we had to finish the season with only 9 players. We lost Patrick Sharkey to Australia in early 2008. Patrick was badly missed and he helped Skerries off to a great first half of the season.

The Skerries 8A1 team 2007-2008 would not be complete without our sponsor. The sponsorship of the McCaffery brothers, of Furniture Designs - Tallaght (PH 01 4515326), is very much appreciated and, have speaking to them at the end of the season, they are very proud to be part of a successful team. Stephen McCaffery has attended several of our games over the season.

To round off our season, the Skerries management went to watch Castleknock play their game in hand, and last match of the season, away to Balscadden. Anything less than a win for Castleknock would have handed the title to Skerries. It ended up a very entertaining match which either side could have taken the win. However, Castleknock won the match 0-2 after two set pieces in the second half.

Congratulations to Castleknock who took the league by a point

13/04/08 - Under 8A1 Match Report

While Castleknock have it in their hands to win the title, Skerries intend to keep them honest and chase them all the way to end of the season. Skerries also knew that an away win to St Mocthas would mean that they could not finish any lower than second spot.

St Mochtas 0    Skerries 8

The game started off brightly with chances at both ends but four minutes in to the first half Skerries were one up.

A goal bound shot was well saved by the St Mocthas keeper, but he could only push it out to the oncoming Robert Clinton and Roberts shot made it 0-1. St Mocthas pushed for an equaliser, but Skerries defence of Brian Winters and Benjamin Guildea were rock solid.

A few minutes later Skerries won a corner and Jack Pender popped up to force home Skerries second.
Even two nil down so early on, St Mocthas would not lie down and but for a fine save from Eoghan O Hanlon, St Mocthas could have got back into the game.

But half way through the first half, Skerries wrapped up the three points with a third goal.
The ball was played into the box and was meet by Andrew Kavanagh who buried the ball from in side the box. The first half was ended when Ross Coleman chipped the keeper to make it 0-4.

Credit must be given to St Mocthas who pushed for an early goal in the second half, but Luke Breen, who had taken over from Eoghan in goal was in no form to go home with anything less that a clean sheet for Skerries. A goal kick from Luke was met by Robert Clinton. Robert pushed forward and crossed the ball into the box. Jack Pender then slotted home for his second. Andrew Kavanagh made it 0-6 a short time later with a pass from Niall Daly. But the best was saved for last as Jack Pender got his hat-trick. With players to pass to, Jack choose to got it alone and with an excellent shot from three yards outside the box, made it 0-7.
However the cheekiest goal of the season must go down to Ross Coleman. A goal bound shot from Robert Clinton was stopped on the line by Ross, who then tapped it in for the last goal of the game 0-8.

The match was even more important as it as watched by the Skerries team sponsor, Stephen McCaffery of Furniture Designs in Tallaght.

03/04/08 - Beware of white vans in the morning

The following report appeared in the 'Metro' on April 2nd.

extract

I made the mistake of leaving the whole of my son's Skerries under 8s football kit in the porch one morning. When we were ready to leave for a home fixture, the kit was gone!

I dare say my neighbours got a good giggle out of me chasing the white van down to the end of the road. If any readers see a new children's team kit with green and white stripes, plus yellow goalie jersey (with sponsor MN Davis) can you let let me know!

Be warned - they come early, even on bank holidays. so if it ain't bolted down it's taken!

Demented Dad, Skerries
